5 Steps to Overcome Doubt:

1. Elbow Doubt in the Gut

Doubt is a feeling – it doesn’t tell you who or what you are.  Remember this every single time you feel doubt or eat elbow macaroni.  Elbow doubt in the gut harshly with force; it is misleading you.

2. Begin Now

Maybe you can’t do it, whatever “it” is for you, but you’ll never know until you begin. I often get caught up in details, and stuck in Ollie-Lollie Land; and never get started.  I’ve learned to begin now, and work on figuring out the details as I go.  It helps me to think of it as a journey, an adventure.

2. Keep Working for Success

It doesn’t happen instantly.  You can’t sit down and write an A paper in one hour.  There is a process you must go through, including moments of uncertainty.  These moments are experienced by every one and have nothing to do with how smart or capable you are.  Uncertainty may mean you need more information, or a better understanding of the task at hand.

(Yes, there are two number 2s.  No, this is not a mistake.  Yes, I know it looks strange.  Yes, there are still 5 Steps.  Yes, I know it doesn’t really make sense. Don’t worry, it’s going to be okay.)

3. Compare Yourself to Yourself

Do not compare yourself to other people – this is poison; it will destroy you.  Compare yourself to where you were before you started, before you changed, before you began working toward your goal.  Look for improvements, do not look for flaws.  Using a journal may help with this; I prefer my wall of post-it notes and my precious victory pile.

4. Do Not Give Up

You deserve the success you dream of – and you will achieve if you do not give up.  Every wall, every obstacle, every “no” can be overcome somehow.  Do not give up.

5. Prayer Works

Prayer, Meditation, Reading sacred Scriptures and connecting with God is important.  I feel change is not really possible without the Higher Power working in me.
